The still life is classic motif in painting. Although it was not always valued as much as a historical or genre painting, the still life has always been a valuable learning tool for beginning painters.
A still life can describe many different types of paintings. Typically, it is just a set of objects that are displayed and then painted. Many times they include fruit, flowers, and dishes. Many of them became very intricate and entrenched with symbolism.
These are two simple, but exquisite examples of still life paintings. They are small, but detailed and oh so beautiful.
